East Village Meat Market, 139 Second Ave (bet. 8th & 9th Street) New York NY 10003, 212-228-5590, has been one of my regular routine for meat grocery in the neighborhood for years. By Julian Baczynsky, 85 year old East Village legend from Ukraine, from the freshest meats to ham and sausages are served ready and they are all home made! I make Yukwhe and Raw Beef Liver, Korean style, and also the best Korean b.b.q. with the prime beef they have!

Kabanosy, garlic sausage, kielbasa, liver pate and pork loin are my favorite items in a basket!

“These hams soak in their salt solution for two weeks, hang in the smokehouse for 12 hours, and are then glazed a burnished brown with caramelized sugar. The process produces a ham that looks and feels wetter than Mr. Kurowycky’s, but has a big, well-rounded flavor, with some creamy fat in each slice and an oily smoke flavor toward the edge.” said Baczynsky during an interview with the Times.

Ukraine community takes a big part of East Village, with Ukrainian Museum on 7th Street and annual festival that take place for few days in May with much of festivity and you bet Julian plays a huge role in the community!
