La MaMa 50 World Block Party!
October 16th, 2011, Sunday, from 2-6pm
Join us on East 4th Street between Bowery and 2nd Avenue for tours of La MaMa’s Archive and theatres, as well as family-friendly performances by Blue Man Group, The Silver Cloud Native American Drummers and Singers, Pua Ali’i ‘Ilima o Nuioka Hula Dancers, and the Balkan gypsy punk rock band, Bad Buka.
During the afternoon visitors will also be able to take tours of the La MaMa Archive, Ellen Stewart’s private collection documenting the history of the Off-Off Broadway movement. Registration for the tours will take place prior to the event.
At the conclusion of the block party, city officials will co-name the block “Ellen Stewart Way,” at which time all the church, mosque, and temple bells, and bells all over the neighborhood and the world will ring in a salute to Ms. Stewart — or “MaMa,” as she was affectionately known by artists and audiences alike — who regularly marked the start of performances at La MaMa by ringing a hand bell before welcoming theatre goers.
La MaMa 50 Gala will take a place on October 17, 2011, from 6-10pm including dinner, dancing and performances by alumni artists, Patti Smith, Bill Irwin and more. The tickets tier from $250 – $250,000. More information, click here.

Three years ago, SB D Gallery curated and directed the first exhibition that stopped the life of Twin Towers as of September 10th, 2001, in effort to heal from the wound by bringing back the happy memories of Twin Towers before the terror.
As a closure, “Pre911:Twin Towers Once Stood” will have the finale this year marching with a decade of struggles, and will present your messages in forms of arts;Photographs, drawings, paintings, poems, sculptures, mixed media… without limited to the medium, we will share our soul and spirit united as one, the human.
All 75 heartfelt international artists’ will be participating with their art works to be displayed on HD screens, and also multiple fabric banners will be printed with images and messages to be hung at our next door gallery. Guests will walk through these ceiling high long banners to experience the memories of being inside or right in front of buildings.
‘Pre911:Twin Towers Once Stood’ book will be published as well which is for sale for $50. All the profit will be donated to 911 Families Association. You may purchase the book online at SB D Shop. Click here to purchase.
The exhibition will open on September 11, 2011, at 4pm and runs for two weeks.
My hope, as a resident living in downtown of Manhattan for 21 years and at the same time, curator and director of SB D Gallery, is to accept the life that is beyond the control of morality, and go on with the life finding comfort leaning on each others. It will NEVER be forgotten, nor healed, and that sharp stabbing into our souls on that specific day of terror will be remembered with the deep scar.

Still glowing from her recent nuptials, Kim Kardashian joined sister Kourtney while out in New York City on Tuesday (August 30).
The reality TV star sisters both looked colorful and cute with Kim in a red dress while Kourt sported white shorts and a yellow top as the E! cameras rolled for the first day of taping season two of “Kourtney and Kim Take New York.”
In related news, the new cast of “Dancing With the Stars” was announced last night and Mr Rob Kardashian is set to partake in the popular dance competition show.
An excited Kim tweeted, “So excited my bro @RobKardashian is gonna be on Dancing With the Stars! Good luck Robbie! I just hope u do better than me…not too hard!LOL”
Kim also spoke with MTV about Beyonce revealing her pregnancy at the MTV VMAs, as she said, “Beyoncé is definitely my highlight. I adore her anyway, but it was so sweet. I thought it was really cool of her to come out and show that at the VMAs, ’cause music is her outlet. She could have done it with any magazine or news station, but she chose her home. I thought it was really cool.”

Hurricane Irene hit East Village, NYC, on Sunday, August 27th, 2011!
Photos by Zinno Park/SB Design/SB D Gallery/iloveEV.com
Category 1, Hurricane Irene hit hard the part of NYC, especially LES and East Village. With the gust of wind around 80 mhp, she threatened New Yorkers with the bug scare, yet, yeah, we are the New Yorkers! With collaborated preparations with pre-cautions, Hurricane Irene left us the minimum damage before she took off.
We had the most rain in the month of August at Central Park, with the accumulation of 17.51″ as of today, and this set the history record breaking the one in 1882.
Farewell, Irene!

| White Roof Project Kicks off East 4th Street as Model Block
On August 21st and 22nd, FABnyc will team up with the White Roof Project to paint 35,000 square feet of roofs. We’ve certainly felt the affects of global warming this summer with record highs and lingering days of heat and humidity. Help us cool down the block by painting a roof. Volunteers are still needed for Monday the 22nd! Come join us for this momentous event in NYC history as we lead the way for East 4th St to become a model block on how to combat heat island effect. |
